PET South America and PET VET bid farewell to São Paulo Expo

More than R$18 million in business rounds, 83 hours of content and the world’s largest grooming championship marked the last edition of the event at its old location; in 2025, the meeting will be held at the Anhembi District

Another edition of PET South America and PET VET, the main meetings of the pet and veterinary industries in Latin America, held by the promoter NürnbergMesse Brasil, came to an end last Friday. In its last edition at São Paulo Expo, the fair brought together more than 430 exhibiting brands, including manufacturers, distributors and suppliers, who, next year, will have their meeting scheduled at a new location: the Anhembi District, in the northern area of São Paulo.

“We are in a time of market effervescence. With the growth of the sector and the relevance of the fairs, the demand for practicality in logistics increases”, explains Guilherme Martinez, director of business meetings. “The new space is, above all, more accessible, which is essential. Especially for visitors and exhibitors from other regions.”

This is the case of Mirna Renée, owner of a daycare center in Macapá, Amapá. She first came to the event in 2023 and returned this year to expand the scope of her own business. “I come to attend the lectures and look for new suppliers for the pet shop we have at the daycare center. Content, products, cutting-edge services… It’s very valuable to find everything we need in one place, in a single experience,” she explains.

The interest also extends to professionals in the sector from other countries. According to data from the event organizers, 17% of international visitors to this year’s edition were from Argentina, 15% from Paraguay, and 12% from Chile. For Marcelo Pontes, CFO of Dolce Pet, a manufacturer of cosmetics for dogs and cats, this is strategic. “The fair helps us boost the visibility of the lines we launch. That’s why we’re holding back the 2024 novelty for the event.”

This year, in addition to the launch of the Nuria line, with fragrances inspired by fine perfumery, such as Cupuaçu da Amazônia, Flor de Moanna and Pitaya Real, the group announced that it has begun the process of exporting its products. For this reason, for Marcelo Miranda, the brand’s Commercial Director, it was gratifying to welcome buyers from other places to the fair.

The director says that the brand’s expected revenue growth for 2024 is 30% compared to last year, and emphasizes that business generation at the event is responsible for at least half of that percentage. “The number of leads generated here is truly impressive. So much so that this year, we invested in a larger stand to meet the public’s demand, which is very high,” explains Miranda.

This is an experience that Pet Society, a Brazilian brand of hygiene, beauty and animal health, knows well. “This is where we learn about all the work our distribution network does throughout the year. We choose the fair to present our new products because it is where we can see how our brand and products are performing in the market,” says Cleiser Kurashima, Marketing Director at Pet Society, which has been participating in PET South America for 20 years.

This year, the group launched Soft Care Pet Serenity, an aromatherapy spray designed to help with anxiety and improve the quality of sleep in pets. Enriched with essential oils of Valerian, Ylang Ylang and Lavender, the spray provides relaxation and anxiety relief, especially during adaptation processes and separation syndrome.

Business Meetings

In addition to the new products and services, the business meetings held with professionals from PET South America and PET VET this year generated over R$18 million. In total, 588 meetings were attended by 34 exhibitors and 71 buyers, including representatives from 12 other countries, such as Italy, Germany, Colombia, Singapore and Bolivia.

Tadeu Feraso, SC Medical’s National Ultrasound Manager, attended one of the rounds and reiterated: “We have participated in all editions since our first time at the fair and this was the best, due to the quality of the participants.”

Content

With 83 hours of content, distributed between PET South America and PET VET, through PET Comportamento, PET Creche Summit, PET Desenvolve, Petland Experience, PET VET Multidisciplinar, PET VET Especialidades and CONAHV, the circuit broke records in the number of lectures.

Alessandra Simões, a veterinary student, attended a panel on canine longevity at the PET VET Multidisciplinar Congress. “I liked the length of the lectures, which allowed me to delve deeper into the topics, and I liked the audience… In addition to the lecturer providing information about the technologies used in the United States, as there were students from other countries, such as Portugal, the cultural exchange provided good exchanges of experiences”, he comments.

It is worth noting that PET VET had a 33% increase in visitors this year, compared to last year.

Groomer Market

Animal grooming is gaining increasing prominence in the sector. This is reflected in the fair. In addition to hosting the world’s largest grooming championship, Mastergroom, 30% of the event’s visitors work in the area. “Often, bathing and grooming represent half of a small business’s revenue. Therefore, we always need to praise this work”, emphasizes William Galharde, one of the most respected professionals in the area.

New Address

Thinking about expanding the options for those who attend the fairs in search of new business, the promoter NürnbergMesse Brasil decided to transfer the next editions of PET South America and PET VET, starting in 2025, to the Anhembi District.

“We have challenges ahead, but also many – and new – opportunities with the change. The space has just been delivered and is modern, larger, with accessible logistics. We are excited and I am sure our partners are too. Next year, the event will be even better”, adds Guilherme Martinez.
