We Need To Talk About Cannabis will be held on June 25, with the participation of more than 200 people
With advances in the treatment of illnesses and diseases, discussions around the use of medicinal cannabis have been expanding. Therefore, this year, We Need to Talk About Cannabis (WNTC), a congress that came to life at FCE Pharma, a pharmaceutical industry trade show, will be held for the first time outside the event. The meeting will be held at Espaço Aroeira, in São Paulo, on June 25.
“With the proportion that the topic has taken and new scenarios emerging, the interest of professionals in the debate has increased. We saw this in the last edition. Therefore, this year, we felt the need to take the series of panels to a larger place, where we could accommodate the entire audience and improve the quality of the content”, explains Nadja Bento, Director of the Lifescience Portfolio at NürnbergMesse Brasil, the event promoter.
In December, the Government of São Paulo published the regulation of the law that provides for the provision of medicinal cannabis-based medicines by the SUS in the State. But what has this experience been like? What is the current status of the bill in Congress? And how is it possible to structure actions that are effectively implemented in this scenario? These and other issues of public policy, regulation, legislation, research and coordination of councils will guide the congress, which will once again be curated by the Brazilian Association of the Pharmaceutical Inputs Industry (Abiquifi).
“The selection of topics and speakers has been refined according to the demands of the production sector. The aim is always to promote progress. This year, in particular, we want to discuss the issues that are being discussed with a higher level of technical rigor and quality, assisting the professional chain with guidance and information to achieve the goal we have in common: to increase the scale of production, with quality and fair prices, allowing access in a responsible manner for the population”, explains Carolina Sellani, Strategic Affairs at Abiquifi.
More than 200 congress participants are expected this year, at the fourth edition of the event. Confirmed speakers include Ubiracir Fernandes, Federal Councilor for Chemistry; Carlos Gadelha, Secretary of Science, Technology, Innovation and Strategic Inputs in Health; and Solange Nappo, Biochemical Pharmacist and Professor at Unifesp, who, as the widow of Elisaldo Carlini, continues her husband’s legacy by continuing her research.
Considered a national reference, the congress will address advances and updates in the medicinal sector in Brazil and worldwide, exploring the development of public policies for medicinal cannabis. “The WNTC is an event that emphasizes the importance of research in the area and reinforces the need for regulatory updates to meet society’s demands. We will bring the country’s greatest researchers and professionals to lead the debates, in the hope of somehow strengthening this chain, which is so important for medicinal advancement,” adds Nadja.
